Google Ads vs Facebook ads: which should a Delhi NCR business start with?

By the Performance and Pixel team · · 3 min read

Short answer: if people already search for what you sell, start with Google Ads. If they don't know they need you yet, or your product needs to be seen to be wanted, start with Facebook and Instagram ads. Most growing businesses in Delhi NCR end up using both, but the order you start in matters when the budget is limited.

Here's how to decide, based on the campaigns we run for solar installers, coaching institutes, real estate and local service businesses.

The real difference: demand capture vs demand creation

Google Ads captures demand. Someone types "rooftop solar installation Noida" or "dentist near me in Gurugram", and your ad appears at that exact moment. The intent is high, so leads are usually warmer, but you can only reach as many people as are searching.

Facebook and Instagram ads create demand. Nobody is searching; you interrupt their scroll with something interesting. You can reach far more people for less money, but you have to earn their attention and qualify them before your sales team calls.

When Google Ads should come first

  • People already search for your service by name, like "IELTS coaching", "PG in Noida" or "AC repair".
  • The need is urgent: repairs, medical, legal, emergency services.
  • You sell a considered B2B service where buyers research before contacting anyone.
  • You want fewer leads, but ones that are more ready to buy.

When Facebook and Instagram should come first

  • Your product is visual or needs explaining: rooftop solar, real estate projects, interiors, food, fashion, events.
  • Few people search for your exact offer, because it's new or they don't know it exists.
  • You want volume and can follow up quickly on WhatsApp.
  • Your best customers fit a clear profile: homeowners, parents, business owners, a certain age or area.

Why the best results come from using both

The two platforms feed each other. Someone sees your Instagram Reel on Monday, searches your brand name on Thursday and clicks your Google ad. Retargeting on Meta can then bring back people who visited from Google but didn't enquire.

For our solar clients, Meta ads with qualifying questions and instant WhatsApp follow-up have delivered leads at ₹60–80 each, while Google Search catches the buyers who are already comparing installers. See the solar case studies.

How much should you spend to start?

There's no universal number, but there is a rule: your budget must buy enough clicks for the platform to learn. A tiny budget spread across many keywords, cities and ad sets never gathers enough data to optimise, so it looks like ads "don't work".

Start narrow instead. Pick one service, one area of Delhi NCR you serve well, and one platform. Run it for three to four weeks, measure cost per lead and how many leads turn into customers, then decide whether to scale, change the offer or test the other platform.

Set up tracking before you spend

Both platforms optimise towards whatever you tell them is a conversion. Before launching, make sure you are tracking:

  • Form submissions on your website or lead forms
  • Clicks on your WhatsApp and call buttons
  • Ideally, which leads became paying customers, imported back into Google Ads or sent to Meta through the Conversions API

Without this, the platforms optimise for cheap clicks, not customers, and your reports can't tell you which campaign is actually making money.

Mistakes that waste budget on either platform

  1. No conversion tracking. If the platform can't see which clicks became leads, it can't optimise for them.
  2. Targeting all of Delhi NCR when you serve one area. Target the cities, localities or radius you actually serve.
  3. Slow follow-up. A lead contacted hours later is far less likely to convert than one contacted within minutes.
  4. One creative, run for months. Ads tire quickly, especially on Instagram. Test new ones every week or two.
  5. Judging by clicks or likes. Judge by cost per lead and cost per customer.

Frequently asked questions

Is Google Ads or Facebook ads cheaper?

Facebook and Instagram usually cost less per click and per lead, while Google Ads leads are often more ready to buy. The fairer comparison is cost per customer, which depends on your industry and how quickly you follow up.

Can I run ads for only part of Delhi NCR?

Yes. Both Google and Meta let you target specific cities, pin codes or a radius around your business, so you only pay to reach people you can serve.

How long should I test before deciding?

Give each platform at least three to four weeks with proper conversion tracking. That's usually enough data to see which brings better customers for your business.
